Description
With just a 61cm frontage and at a height of 88cm, this neat Victorian corner cupboard avoids being overpowering (which some of the larger examples from the period can be). It has a recessed, panelled door decorated with astragal beading in the form of an intertwined pattern framing a diamond shape of the same material, culminating in a smaller diamond of mahogany. Both the hinges and lock appear to be original. Inside there are three shaped shelves, the bottom one of which has been at some time replaced (see picture). The top and bottom mouldings are all intact and the back boards possess a few early fixing holes, they are also original. It has a good reflective polish and although the lovely chestnut colour is a little patchy in places, it remains a sturdy, good looking piece of antique furniture, serviceable for many years to come.
