Vintage English Westminster Chiming Mantel Clock by Smiths

Fine English Westminster chiming Mantel Clock from 1957, by maker Smiths. (Smiths English Clocks Ltd of London), one of England's most successful clockmakers. A dome shaped Oak case with clean lines, has steel Roman numerals embedded directly into the case to form the dial, offering excellent cosmetic appearance. The face is then finished with its original pair of decorative Louis Xvi style steel hands and signed "Smiths Enfield, Made in England." The dial is then protected by convex glaze, mounted in a chrome bezel. The quality Smiths 8-Day K6A Westminster Chiming Movement, (introduced in 1951), was made in Glanrhyd, South Wales, by the Anglo-Celtic Watch Company (a subsidiary of Smiths) and known locally as the 'tick tock factory'! It has 4 x rear under-slung chiming hammers and stamped into the plain finished and lacquered backplate is the build date 575 (May 1975) and the makers name "Smiths, Made in Gt Britain." The clock chimes the quarters and hours on brass rods with chime / silent adjustment leaver on the dial. The clock also benefits from its original polished brass pendulum bob and its original Smiths signed winding key.
