William Henry Hunt (1790-1864). Painter and watercolourist of fruit, flowers, rustic genre and landscapes. Although primarily a watercolourist, Hunts works influenced many Victorian painters, as well as watercolourists. His early works ,mostly landscapes, rustic genre, such as this example, or architectural studies, much influenced by Varley. About 1820 he began to fruit and flowers ,and candlelight scenes. His technique also changed. Using body colour, he developed an individual method of hatching and stippling over a white ground, similar to Birket Foster. These pretty enamel-like watercolours became enormously popular and were much admired by Ruskin. Image size 11x9cms, framed size 28x24 cms. Housed in a modern giltwood frame with museum glass.
