Mintons was founded in 1793 by Thomas Minton selling practical earthenware products from tiles to tableware. Through their range of practical yet elegant designs they earned a very good reputation also gaining contracts with public buildings including the Houses of Parliament. Stylistically many of the pieces embraced classical forms, but they also embraced the Gothic Revival taste and all white Parian ware. There are still keen collectors of Minton pottery and pieces by noted designers of the day are naturally very desirable.
