Thora Clyne - Artist

Thora Clyne was an artist and teacher, born in Wick, Caithness. She gained her master's degree with honours in fine art at Edinburgh University and College of Art in 1960, teachers including William Gillies and Derek Clarke, then was awarded a year's postgraduate scholarship and travelling fellowship, Andrew Grant Bequest. Was principal assistant at Aberdeen Art Gallery, 1960'1, in 1963 studying printmaking at University of Colorado in America. From 1963 lectured part-time at Edinburgh College of Art. Prizes included the Anne Redpath Award, 1979, and special prize, 1984, both Sswa of which she was a member. Clyne regularly exhibited at Rsa, Rsw and at Ra. Also exhibited in group shows in France and America. Had a solo show at Torrance Gallery, Edinburgh, 1991. Parisian street scenes, wild gardens, cats and unspoilt agrarian landscapes were among key themes.
