Description

A whist or bezique marker which has a label on the reverse giving the date and an owners name. a lovely example of a Japanese shibayama consisting of a lacquered base with eight flip up ivory markers each with it's own miniature bug (all seem to be working fine and can be raised easily). three i can see are inlaid with mother of pearl, the others seem to be made up from layers of a coloured clear lacquer to form the main body with fine line work for the legs and antenna. the surface of the base wood has been layered in a black lacquer with a gold/gilt lacquer to create a design of leaves and branches.

Sizes are 9.1cm wide x 5cm deep and 1cm high.
