Art & Stuff is a shop in Abingdon on Thames, about 5 miles from Oxford. I specialise in original artworks - mainly traditional watercolours and oil paintings but I also have a range of contemporary artworks which are mostly limited edition lithographic prints. My website has a gallery section where many of my items are shown, including heavier items which are not easy to post! I welcome browsers to my shop which is open Thursday to Saturday. I also stock antiques and collectables of all kinds including contemporary studio pottery and glassware. I also look out for the weird and quirky!

Description

An interesting historical document, this "new" map of Buckinghamshire shows the "District Divisions and other local arrangements effected by the Reform Bill". The Reform Act of 1832 did away with the old system of parliamentary constituencies, with its rotten boroughs controlled by powerful families. A key to the symbols on the map, lower right, shows which towns had seats abolished, which were left unaffected and so on. Aylesbury and Wendover, for example have the symbol for disenfranchisement, whereas Great Marlow and High Wycombe have the symbol showing they were unaffected. As this map refers to the Reform Bill, it suggests it was published before the Bill became law in 1832.
