Description

This is a fabulous papier mâché French 'growler' bulldog toy which has a nodding head, pull cord mechanism which operates the dog's mouth, by pulling the chain upwards the dog's mouth opens and 'growls' - this is all in good working condition, which is quite rare from a toy of this age. It is on wooden wheels, has glass eyes and a leather and coconut husk collar.

This toy has been predominantly owned by one family through its life time, they shipped it from The Gold Coast, Africa (which is now Ghana) to England in the 1930's. The box that comes with the toy we believe was specifically made for it to ship over to England in the 1930's.

Measurements

The dog measures approx. 57cm long, 28cm high and 24cm wide.

The box measures 59.5 long, 30cm high and 29cm wide.

Condition

The dog has lost some of the coconut husk around its collar and has a very small amount of holes of historic woodworm other than these points it is in excellent condition.
