Description

This is a lovely brooch from the Edwardian era - the item consists of a large oval Sodalite stone which is mounted into a 9ct rose gold opened backed frame - the brooch also has a removable short gold safety chain.

As a crystal, Sodalite is believed to bring logic, rationality and efficiency to a persons life - it's also used in healing for conditions of the glands, diabetes and the digestive system to name a few.

The Sodalite stone is beautifully polished and is a deep navy blue colour with white flecks and feather like patterns - the reverse of the gold frame is marked 9ct for 9 carat gold and also has the manufacturers mark of C&F Ld which is Constantine & Floyd who were silversmiths and jewellery importers in the very early 20th century.

The brooch has a simple tube hinge and C clasp which is absolutely typical of the era - the pin also protrudes over the edge of frame which is another typical trait of early pieces - the reason the pins were so long is that clothing in the Victorian and Edwardian era was a lot heavier and thicker than is is now and therefore required a longer pin to secure it.

This is a really simple but striking piece of original Edwardian jewellery from circa 1905 - it would look fantastic with the right outfit!

Measurements

The brooch measures 4.8cm length x 4.2cm width - the total weight is 13.5g.
