Description

The item carries full hallmarks for Birmingham 1908 - the silversmiths mark is that of Pendleton & Sons of Northampton Street, Birmingham.

The pendant is wonderfully Art Nouveau in style - the main body of the piece has a trefoil shaped recessed centre that has been infilled with shimmering a blue / green and yellow enamel, a colour that was so popular at the beginning of the 20th century.

At the bottom of the pendant is a simple triangular shaped silver drop.

The silver chain is attached at the top left and right of the piece which then converges about an inch up from the top of the pendant - a simple ring then attaches these two small pieces together together - a further slightly finer chain then slips through this ring - this was actually quite a common form of chain style during this era.

The hallmarks are marked to the rear of the pendant.

You may notice in the picture of the rear of the item that there are two tiny holes - - I've been told by a goldsmith / jeweller that these are there as a result of the manufacturing process of setting the enamel - I originally thought it may of been a brooch at some point in its life, but if this was the case it has been done a very long time ago.

Whatever the reason it doesn't detract whatsoever and of course there's no effect on how the front of the item looks.

Jewellery conversions happen all the time and have done for centuries so it shouldn't be of any concern to any prospective buyers.

The marks to the back are quite worn and polished which suggests this item has been worn a lot in the last 110 years - the constant rubbing against clothes or skin has gently rubbed away the detail - there is just enough visible to date the item and know who made it.

The pendant measures 2cm across and is 3cm top to bottom including the silver drop - the chain is approximately 19 inches in length - the total unpacked weight is 4.1g.
