Early Victorian inlaid rosewood jewellery box in very good condition. Attractive grain. Unspoilt mellow patina. One very small piece of replaced veneer at the bottom back corner of the left side. As can be seen from the photographs the restoration has been professionally done using veneer of like patina/colour and that fact coupled with the location means that it certainly does not detract from the item.
Lid closes perfectly square. Original hinges and lock. Key for decorative purposes only. The box interior features a removable divided tray with storage space beneath. All interior surfaces have been relined, all is in spotless condition.
It is of course the intricate Mother of Pearl inlays to the box exterior that commands attention. Please note the condition!! The small piece immediately surrounding the key hole has possibly been replaced but if so once again it must have been done professionally as it is not a job taken on lightly. All of the rest of the inlays are original, complete and in superb condition and it is quite incredible for the likes to be in such condition after well over 150 years!!
A box that displays beautifully, commands attention and will be a joy to use. Very highly recommended.
