Description

Inlaid Rosewood jewellery box in very good condition. No missing or replaced veneer or inlays. Unspoilt patina. Even colour and grain with no unsightly light bleaching. Inlaid Mother of Pearl cartouche and escutcheon. Slightly rounded edges obtained by rosewood strips along the edges, all original and complete….Helps to prevent end splitting/lifting of the veneer…..it has obviously served the purpose well. Lid closes perfectly square. Original hinges and lock. Key for decorative purposes only. Original panel to the lid interior that folds forward to give access to a ‘love letter’ envelope. Some staining to the panel but the silk is free of tears and both side folds of the envelope are still fully intact (quite unusual). The original tray is missing 3 lids and one small divider but the later certainly does not notice and in terms of use as a jewellery box the missing lids are of little to no consequence. All lining throughout the tray and storage section beneath is original and in FAR better condition than expected for a box of such age. It should be fine for use for a good many years to come.

Originally made as a sewing/work box such boxes are now for the most part used as jewellery boxes. The small section featuring 4 circular apertures would have probably housed thimbles. It simply lifts out if so desired. The divisions of the tray and the storage section beneath being ideal for storing both small and larger items of jewellery.

Unpacked weight 1.7Kg
