Highly attractive figured walnut combination jewellery/perfume bottle box in fine condition.
Measures approximately 9” x 7 ½” x 6” therefore convenient to place upon most surfaces including a bedside cabinet or possibly a shelf. Original inset incised brass top handle. Unspoilt mellow patina. Attractive grain. Cross grain edge trim. No missing or replaced trim or veneer. The lid closes perfectly square on the original brass hinges. Original lock with a replacement working key supplied. Original bevelled edge glass in perfect condition. The box opens to reveal the original silk lining and deep buttoned/padded panel to the lid interior. The panel is worn and could very easily be replaced but it does give a nice aged look and a bit of character to the item. Removable tray with generous storage space beneath. The tray features side hoop ring handles, a gilt embossed leather covering, the original silk lining to the base (free of tears) and dividers that provide 6 open storage areas for those small items of jewellery.
Possibly the most attractive feature of the box is the area to the front of the box. When the lid is raised the hinged front can be lowered to give full access to the perfume bottles. The area has been very neatly relined, is free of tears and stains and all recesses are original. The three bottles are assumed to be original to the box. They fit the box perfectly. All are in superb condition with good fitting stoppers.
With the jars in situ and in full view through the bevelled glass front this item makes for a most attractive display…..and of course is a very practical item for use.
