This is a lovely and original piece of aeronautica from the WW1 period - the item is fashioned from part of a propeller from a first world war plane - there are no visible marks to the item so I cannot be sure which type of plane this has come from. The box appears to have been made from a section near the central boss - it sits on a slightly wider foot (secured by original screws) to the base and has a slightly wider wider lid that fits snugly - I believe the wood to be mahogany which was the favoured wood used in the production of propeller during WW1. As can be seen in the last 4 images, the box has an original tan coloured velvet lining which suggests that someone has use it as a jewellery or trinket box - the edge of the velvet fabric near the lip is a little ragged and peeling away but you may wish to stick it back down or even re-line the box if desired.
The box measures approximately 17cm in length and is 12.5cm wide - the height is 8.2cm - the total unpacked weight is 327g.
Century Antiques has clarified that the WW1 era trench art original propeller trinket / jewellery box (CA2045 / LA93736) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being 1918.
The condition of the box is all round generally excellent - the wood has an all over fine colour and patina - the lid fits snugly and is an excellent fit - as mentioned above the lining is a little worn in places, but this doesn't detract. If I was being ultra critical there is a tiny chip to the wood on the underside of the lip of the lid (see last picture) - this is very small and virtually invisible from the top side - all round, it's an excellent piece for a collector.
