19th Century Gothic Brass Candle Shade Stand with Guard Sticks

A very attractive antique, 19th century (Victorian era) gothic style tabletop fan stand. These were made to preserve delicate complexions from the heat of the fire or to shade a candle and diffuse the light. This could also be used to hold an incense stick. It is made from brass. There are still the two brass guard sticks only for the original fan. The silk pleated part would have long since shattered. Having the two brass end pieces mean that a new fabric part could be replicated by a skilled person. The stand itself has super gothic detailing all around the base and sides of the upright. There is a crest towards the top of the spires where the "Days Patent" wording appears. The stand consists of the base and upright, with a removable screw cap which gives access to the inside of the uprights where the folded silk fans would have been stored when not in use. The top of the screw cap has an adjustable finial into which the fan fits. This item is in very good order, so a rare opportunity to acquire one. This is a superb decorative object, and would make a stunning addition to your mantelpiece, side table or desk, and would be ideal for anyone interested in gothic, medieval or Victorian styling.
