Description
A very attractive and rare antique, 19th century Victorian, gothic style scent or condiment bottle holder, with cut glass bottle. The item is decorated all around the body with gothic arch window style filigree type work in a repeating pattern. There is an integral round base, also with gothic arch decoration to its sides. This item is made from brass, but is currently in tarnished conditon making it resemble bronze. The stand is complete. The glass bottle has no chips or cracks but is missing its original stopper and currently has a suitable replacement. The glass bottle has a few small marks inside it, towards the base and hidden by the holder. The stands measures about 6.25 inches (15.9 cm) high, with the base about 3.6 inches (9 cm) in diameter. The cut glass bottle measures about 9.4 inches (24 cm) in height (including the stopper). The base is weighted so that there is little chance of the item being knocked over. This is a lovely decorative object, and it is very difficult to find these days. It would make a stunning addition to your side, dining or dressing table or desk, and would be ideal for anyone interested in gothic styling. This item was originally part of the collection of Sir Roy and Lady Strong. He having been the director of both the Victoria and Albert museum and the National Portrait Gallery, and Lady Strong having been a renowned set designer. The item comes from the recent sale of the contents of their house "Lasketts".
