Description
A rare example of an English 17th Century Arabesque Chest Of Drawers of beautiful faded colour with highly burnished surface. This form of Exceptionally fine work often referred to as Seaweed Marquetry was sort after by the wealthiest clients and made mostly in London by leading continental craftsmen such as Geritt Jensen.
Made using highly figured Walnut veneers with Marquetry panels to the drawer fronts, ends and top, the piece benefits from extremely clean original drawer linings with Pine bottoms and Elm sides on side runners.
The back boards and bottom board also made in Elm, the only replacements are the ebonized bun feet and fish tail drop handles which are in keeping with the period. The locks are original apart from one that is missing on the top right drawer.
