Description
Unique, early Victorian framed hand needlework sampler, signed and dated by Elizabeth Clark, (who was aged 15 in 1844).*
*Early/mid 19thC needlework samplers are pieces of embroidered fabric that were used as practise and educational exercises for children, (especially girls). To help showcase the young embroiderers dexterity and proficiency, the samplers often included alphabets, numbers, and religious verses, and were often signed and dated, such as this fine example.
Today, they are highly collectable items of art, each one being truly exclusive and unique.
