The impressive white enamel chapter ring has an enclosed recessed centre and polished brass garnishing, exhibiting the clocks visible Brocot jewelled escapement and black Roman numerals. The dial is then signed by London retailer “J.R.H. Chaplin, London-Bridge” and finished with a pair of original Simple Roman hands, secured by a pinned collet, all protected by a thick bevelled glaze mounted in its brass bezel.
The clocks fabulous high-quality Japy Frères 8-day circular pendulum driven movement is immaculate and in full working order. Accessed via its rear hinged bevelled glazed door (also mounted in a brass bezel), it strikes the hours and half-hours on its nickel ‘ting bell’. The movement backplate is impressed with both the D' Aureville et Chameroy, Maison Barbot and Japy Frères et Cie 'Grande Medaille d’Honneur' 1855 trademarks, along with movement serial number “2497.” The clock also offers the rare advantage of coming with its original pendulum (being stamped with the same serial number as that on the movement) and a period steel winding key.
