Very pleasing Anglo-American striking drop dial wall clock, the hand-crafted case being made in England (most probably London or Liverpool), and the movement being imported from the US. (This is an unnamed movement, yet with its distinctive and unique tapered escape wheel bridge and plate design / size, expertise tells us that it’s a New Haven mechanism). This style of clock is often known as the "hollow, string and dot." (The 'hollow' referring to a clocks lower aperture space, whilst the 'string and dot' refers to the skillfully hand-crafted embellishment added to the clock cases). The clocks dark and honey Walnut case is designed with a lathe turned octogen-head over Ogee drop box and retains both its original hand-carved side-ears and front hinged and glazed inspection door surrounded by delicately crafted rope moulding garniture. This leads down to the clocks fabulous Ogee base with rolling scroll. The clocks original white metal dial with brass central ring, has black Roman numerals and “Eccles, Stratford-on-Avon" painted onto its face and finished with a pair of original blued steel American Spade hands secured with a pinned collet. The dial is then protected by glaze mounted in a solid cast brass bezel. (Note: The Eccles family were well-known local watchmakers in the town, who also owned a high-society jewellery, clock and watch retail outlet at 15 Bridge Street, Stratford-on-Avon. This, under the name of their founding family member, “J.R Eccles”). The clock is driven by a robust and highly efficient American 8-day pendulum driven movement, set between two skeleton brass plates. Striking its cast iron ‘ting bell’ on the hours only, it comes with its original patterned brass pendulum bob and an authentic winding key. A fine example of these highly popular and much sought-after Anglo-American clocks! Shipping: Please contact us for a competitive quote. Payment - We Accept: - Debit / Credit Cards.
