18th Century Italian Painted Console Table

This serpentine console or side table is original in all respects. Its fine shaped grey marble top, with moulded edge, is original and is a beautiful example. The table is painted and gilded which shows great character and patination and the silver gilt highlights have aged beautifully. The serpentine frieze has a classical mask and flowers motif in the centre also repeated on the sides of the table. There are anthemion motifs on the knees and there is a wide gilded border around the apron and highlighting each of the legs. This table combines rococo and neoclassical influences and is very attractive.
