Description
A Meissen porcelain patch/beauty spot box, circa 1750, after a model by Johann Joachim Kändler, in the form of a grape picker pannier, with gilt-metal mounts, decorated with flower sprays and gilding, the lid moulded with grapes and vine leaves. With a mirror on the underside of the lid. 6.5cm (2.6in) high Condition: Very good for age and type. Wear to gilding, thumb piece bent (easily straightened), mirror backing tarnished, small patch of missed glaze internally on left side, immediately below mount. The hinge works well, and the box closes tightly. The mount attached to the body of the box is slightly loose. There is possibly a very tiny loss to the edge of a vine leaf on the right side of the lid, although no clear break was found under high magnification.
