18th Century Six Board Elm Chipped Carved Coffer Dated 1765

This elm coffer has to be one of the nicest coloured timbers, well it should be, it has been maturing for around 258 years. Small in height and depth, although a good width at just over a metre than most, but it makes up for some of the diminutive proportions in an abundance of character. The warm hew of the elm is delightful, made with only 6 planks, the original lock (no key), with the original candle box or sometime known as a till. The top is made from one plank, and the side handles are a later edition. A primitive chip carved design to the front with the initials I. W. and a date of 1765. A simple yet classic designed coffer from the 18th century.
