Lovely Malacca wood and hallmarked silver walking stick or cane with a lignum vitae pommel designed to represent a bowling ball complete with the numbered disc to the top. The silver was assayed in London as shown in the pictures, date letter for 1920 and makers mark for Christopher Walker, a stick and cane maker from Manchester. Plain silver collar under the pommel on a strong Malacca shaft. The ferrule is original and made of brass. Please contact us with any questions you may have.
It measures 84 cm 33 inches in length, the pommel is 4.5 cm 1 3/4 inches wide.
Shires Antiques has clarified that the 1920 Lawn Bowl Walking Stick Cane Hallmarked Solid Silver Pommel Malacca Shaft (LA77551) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being c.1920
It's in excellent condition but with some signs of age and use as you'd expect at this age. Some dumps and crazing to the lacquer finish on the pommel. The lacquer to the shaft has also crazed with age but has been waxed to protect the original finish.
