Silver top ebony cane which in itself is quite ordinary. However the top is engraved “Turnier und Rennverein Insterburg” Tournament and racing club Interburg. On the side is “Olypiaole -Jahn 1936” Olympian 1936. The Olympic games of 1936 were held in Berlin, pre war Germany where the Germans won the gold medal for the equestrian individual and team events as well as silver in the individual dressage. Research indicates that these were presented to the equestrian team members after their success at the games by the German Association for Horse racing and Exhibitions which was one of the largest equestrian institutions at the time. Records exist that riding crops were given as team awards in many top class events as well as other commemorative items, this being one. There were only around 20 to 30 members to the team and some won’t have survived so this is a pretty rare pre war specimen. Probably presented originally as the top to a riding crop and then converted when a cane became more useful keeping the presentation relevant to the individual. The top is stamped with the 900 fitness silver mark.
It’s 93.3 cm long, the silver top is 2.8cm in diameter and 5 cm long.
