1970 Camaro Heuer 7220 Chronograph Wristwatch - Provenance

An early 1970s Camaro Heuer wristwatch. A silvered dial with large block hour markers, each champfered to the top and bottom. A finely detailed minute track to the outer edge, with 1/5th markers designed to be as accurate as possible for chrono timing. The sub-dials consists of three chrono stages, with a constant seconds at 9 o'clock, a 30 minute timer to 3 o'clock and finally a 12 hour counter to 6 o'clock. The lower subsidiary dial is marked 'Swiss T' showing the use Tritium lume on the dial. The hours and minutes are indicated by a variant of 'baton' hands and a counterbalanced seconds. The case is made of solid stainless steel, with a brushed finish to the bezel. This is in contrast to the main body and bezel edging which shows a polished steel finish. The watch has maintained original chronograph pushers as well as its Heuer winding crown. The screw down case back has an inner inscription of 'Heuer Leonidas As Sa, Swiss, Stainless Steel'. Case reference 7220 is marked to the lugs, as well as the serial number. The watch is powered by a 17 Heuer-Leonidas mechanism, using the famous Valjoux 72 as a base caliber. This was a mechanism of outstanding quality, as such it was utilised in many Rolex Daytona, Breitling Navitimer and other Heuer models. Complete with a Tag Heuer Service pouch. This watch comes with a charming letter of provenance from its original owner, stating details about its use during his career in athletics from its original purchase in 1973.
