19th Cent Mahogany Moon Dial Longcase Grandfather Clock
An attractive 19th Century antique longcase clock by Charles Haines, Swindon. He is listed as working there from 1830 to 1859. The case is in nicely figured mahogany with boxwood and ebony stringing. The trunk and hood have spiral turned columns the smart cast brass Corinthian capitals. The arched top hood has ball and eagle finials. The clock was originally designed to lean against a wall and therefor has no back feet. The good quality 8 day movement strikes the hours on a bell. It has an unusual convex painted dial with subsidiary seconds dial and date indicator. To the arch is displayed the phases of the moon. The case is in good unrestored condition but does have the odd veneer chip and other inevitable minor signs of age and use. The movement is in good working order with all functions working as they should. The dial is in unrestored original condition. There are a few marks and the paintwork is crazed, also the numbers are a little faded.
Height excluding finial (+12cm (4.5")
