19th Century Adjustable Cast Iron & Copper Base Wine Table

Wood meets iron work...What a rare & valuable find from around the 1880's. Such a nice design, incredible quality castings and sublime detail. The table is also stamped with 'North's Patent' from J. Carter 56, Norton Street, London. There is so much to take in, when you explore this detail on the adjustable cast iron and copper wine table. Start at the cast iron base in the manner of Coalbrookdale, look at the four wonderful cast iron legs with paw feet, the ornate foliated arched legs, rising to a squashed ball which supports the spiraled copper column, with a bead of raised pin head on a lined track, follow the crease in the copper. The spiral looks and sounds to the touch very like copper and not cast iron. So, in my humble opinion, it is copper and not another material. The tarnished brass collar and button lock to hold in place the adjustable bar, that supports the circular, mahogany, table top in place at varied heights to suit the user. The mahogany top has a stepped beaded edge and lots of patina across the surface. When you flip the top over you will find the makers stamp in two sections. Very useful addition to your home. Variable height adjustment 66cm (lowest point) to 102cm at the highest point (approximate). Period: 19th Century, Circa 1880's. Material: Cast Iron, Copper & Mahogany.
