Penderyn Antiques are a family run business residing in an old Welsh chapel in the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park. We source and restore a wide range of furniture, antiques, interiors and collectables. We have no specific style that we adhere to, (if we like it, we’ll buy it!) but we do have a keen interest in early Welsh country furniture and unusual decorative items. At Penderyn Antiques, we express an indebtedness to those nameless joiners who worked with wood so long ago before plastics and the age of automation. For in building furniture with integrity; so that it will last hundreds of years, they have been our mentors. Their work remains a testament to their commitment to their craft and excellence. Wood is the most used of all our natural resources. We have a duty to recycle, reuse, adapt and preserve it. We must use wood to create furniture that has longevity and combat the ‘throwaway’ society…even though it does grow on trees..”

Description

An amazingly detailed and attractive 19th century antique carved oak coffer. This beautiful antique oak coffer has a well crafted front featuring patterns, scrolls, flowers and acorn carvings, also a central plaque dated ‘Diamond Jubilee 1897 Victoria’. The antique oak coffer has a panelled hinged lid that opens to reveal a large interior. Raised on decorative stile feet. A particularly pleasing example, with beautiful colour and grain throughout. In good antique condition throughout with some signs of age. There is surface wear in places including age-related marks, scratches, stains and minor patch repairs to the lid surface (pictured), also minor dents to the front of the coffer (pictured). There is evidence of historical woodworm, however this is now long gone and has been fully treated as a precaution. There are also a few honest repairs to the feet (pictured), also a split to the right hand side (pictured). The antique oak coffer remains structurally solid and sound. Overall, a great example of its kind. Our carpenter inspects, repairs, and restores our items, so you can have full confidence that what you buy from us is ready for your home! We ask that you take the time to look at all the photos as they form part of the description and condition report of the item.
