This is a spectacular Early 19th Century Provincial Chinese elm 3 drawer scroll table dating back to circa 1850 and is in country house antique condition with original patinated lacquer finish and bronze handles. The original purpose and use for this delightful object would have been to draw up the religious scrolls and these would then have been stored in the drawers. When opened up the scrolls would be rolled open and weighted at either end for study and contemplation.
It could now serve multiple purposes and would be perfect for use as a side server or console; additionally as a freestanding item it could make an ideal kitchen island.
