19th Century French Champleve & Gilt Bronze Candlesticks & Mirror

This very attractive pair of candlesticks and dressing table mirror are French in origin and date to C. 1890. The candlesticks are ornately decorated with Champleve enamelling as well as the oval shaped dressing table mirror, which is supported on 4 bun feet. The candlesticks measure 14 cms in height with a diameter of 7.5cm. The mirror measures 32cm wide, 21cm deep and 4cm in overall height. Champlevé enamel is a decorative technique where recessed cells (troughs) are carved, etched, or cast into a metal surface—typically copper or bronze—and filled with vitreous enamel before being fired and polished. Meaning "raised field" in French, the technique leaves the uncarved metal surface visible as a frame for the colourful glass design. Origin: French, 1890 Condition: Excellent
