Description
This clock was made by John Rawsthorne in the mid 1800's, in Castle Street, Clitheroe - it has a Mahogany and Oak case with a beautiful Swan neck pediment. The face is hand painted on gilt with flowers and garnish at the bottom and Urns and flowers at the top.  The colours are still bold and strong.  The name Rawsthorne and Clitheroe are hand painted across the face. It is an 8 Day Clock, chiming on the hour.  The only thing that doesn't work is the Date hand which is fairly common in clocks of this age. The face is showing a few signs of wear as lettering is fading in places as are the numbers on the date and the second dial, all Roman Numerals are strong, as are the minute indicators. We had this clock serviced when we acquired it by an excellent Horologist in Somerton.  He made a new 'bring to chime' piece for it as that had previously been broken. It has 2 weights and a bell. It keeps perfect time.

condition

This clock is in very good condition. It was refurbished by Steve Brown of Langport Clocks and a new part was made by hand for it. It keeps excellent time. There is a small crack in the wood panels at the base of the Clock that you may want to refurbish, otherwise, it's gorgeous! I do have some videos of it working and chiming so please contact me to see them through www.ripleyantiques.co.uk
