19th Century Oak Rocking Lambing Chair with Bucket Shape

A beautiful oak lambing chair from the second half of the 19th century, this is a rocking version with a barrel or bucket shaped base. It will look fabulous in a country farmhouse kitchen, or by a fireside in a cottage. These rustic, high backed armchairs with wings originate from the sheep farming regions of Northern England and are said to have been designed for shepherds to rest in while the lambing was underway, with the drawer underneath for warming newborn lambs. - Panelled back. - Drawer beneath seat, with brass handle. - Shaped top. - Winged sides. - Attractive wooden joint plugs. - Back stretcher between rockers.
