Description
A monumental and exceptionally decorative 19th Century Renaissance Revival carved oak buffet hall cupboard dating from circa 1880. Richly crafted from solid oak throughout, this impressive architectural piece showcases the extraordinary craftsmanship and bold design that defined the finest Renaissance Revival furniture of the Victorian period. The upper section features a pair of finely carved cupboard doors enclosed by fluted columns with Corinthian capitals beneath a deeply moulded cornice. Throughout the cabinet are an abundance of superb hand-carved details including lion masks, classical busts, scrolling foliage, fruiting vines, mythical creatures, and finely executed decorative panels. Below, a substantial serving surface sits above a large frieze drawer fitted with its original brass ring handle. The open central section provides excellent display space for decorative objects, ceramics, books, or sculptures, while the enclosed upper cupboard offers practical concealed storage.
