We also enjoy the great craft and quality construction in folk art and vernacular items from across Europe. In particular, Scandinavian decorative items from the 18th and 19th Century. We enjoy being analytical in our approach and supporting our stock with background research, provenance and history through researching the items, the period, designers and retailers. We often hunt the country from our Scottish location, but routinely search from Lancashire and Yorkshire as well as buying trips further afield to supply items online. We also like to take on items that particularly interest us from earlier periods, dependent on our fascination for an object. For sale is a beautiful little Scottish vernacular treacle glaze, dipped, penny bank (money box) or 'penure-pig', 'pinner' or 'Pirley-pigs' from the late 19th century.  - The charming little Scottish vernacular furniture piece is a slotted earthenware money-box for small savings, used esp. by children. - In the Scottish vernacular mahogany Lum / Scotch chest of drawers form with barley twist side columns in the style of the second half of the 19th Century.  - Likely to be Scottish in origin Rosslyn's pottery in Kirkcaldy produced these fascinating little recreations and were, in the main, covered in a rich brown 'Rockingham' type glaze popular in export markets like North America, which highlights the embossed decoration well. A highly charming, collectable and beautiful little item which satisfied our vernacular Scottish interest in particular. Free delivery in the mainland UK as priced.
