19th Century Scottish Rosslyn Pottery Glazed Cat 'Penny Bank' or Money Box

For sale is a beautifully tactile little Scottish glazed cat penny bank / money box in upright repose. - Scottish penny bank in simple treacle brown slip glazed earthenware form. These are money boxes or 'Pirley-pigs' from the late 19th century. - The charming little Scottish vernacular piece is a slotted earthenware money-box for small savings, used esp. by children. It has a wide slot for coin deposits. - Pottery in an attractive deep brown glaze with a simple / naively modelled face in a folk art style with original firing crack and one small ear nick. - Likely to be Scottish in origin from the Rosslyn's pottery in Kirkcaldy produced these fascinating little recreations.
