Based in stunning Speyside, Moray, Scotland, we (Mr & Mrs W) are passionate about quality antique items with great design and evident craft, predominantly from the 18th, 19th and early 20th century. We also enjoy the great craft and quality construction in folk art and vernacular items from across Europe. In particular, Scandinavian decorative items from the 18th and 19th Century. We enjoy being analytical in our approach and supporting our stock with background research, provenance and history through researching the items, the period, designers and retailers. We often hunt the country from our Scottish location, but routinely search from Lancashire and Yorkshire as well as buying trips further afield to supply items online. We also like to take on items that particularly interest us from earlier periods, dependent on our fascination for an object. For sale is a beautifully simple Scottish brander back armchair from the first half of the 19th Century c.1825-1850. - Ash, birch and elm vernacular armchair with softwood seat and warm attractive colour to the wear and use - Attractive and decorative brander back, leading to lovely flattened and curved arms with notched arm terminus. The right hand arm has a small table and wing shaped flap to support in the unique Scottish style for these joined lowland armchairs - The front legs are tapered in the Scottish manner to their inner and rear surfaces with a small piece of engraved decoration to the under-arm supports - The front and rear stretchers are raised in contrast to the side stretchers - The chair has lovely wear and patina throughout the contact points from its circa 180+ years and remains very robust a perfectly ready for further service Ready for further decorative utility in a new home, it is a lovely armchair with subtle but attractive proportion and design.
