W&W Antiques

Based in stunning Perthshire, Scotland, near Crieff we (Mr & Mrs W) are passionate about quality antique items with great design and evident craft, predominantly from the 18th, 19th and early 20th century. In particular, we enjoy period items reflecting the beautiful design and aesthetic changes from the decorative arts, from circa 1850 - 1960. Including the Aesthetic Movement, Art Nouveau, Arts & Crafts Movement (In particular of Scottish origin), Modernism, Art Deco and Streamlining. We also enjoy the great craft and quality construction in folk art and vernacular items from across Europe. In particular, Scandinavian decorative items from the 18th and 19th Century. We enjoy being analytical in our approach and supporting our stock with background research, provenance and history through researching the items, the period, designers and retailers. We often hunt the country from our Scottish location, but routinely search from Lancashire and Yorkshire as well as buying trips further afield to supply items online. We also like to take on items that particularly interest us from earlier periods, dependent on our fascination for an object. We are always learning, and happy to share knowledge gained, so please do get in touch. Thanks for viewing our selection of stock, we are always pleased to see items pass through our hands to new owners and homes as antiques remain a great green recyclable purchase! Description
For sale are a pair of large Scottish vernacular creepies circa 1875-1900. - A pair of large over-sized creepies (or boarded stools) constructed of five boards in a robust manner - Central three finger cut hole(s) to aid lifting / moving (three overlapping circles) - Curved semi-circular / decorative arch in each of the two-leg panels (per stool) one characteristic of Scottish vernacular 'Creepie' stools - Original dark stain and varnish to the external surfaces of softwood / pine boards - Decorative reeded / plane cut lines to the seat surface along the long edge of each stool. Both are in a rich and dark colour - Age-related wear and marks but nothing that affects their solid utility These Scottish vernacular stools were of great utility in rural homes for seating by the fire, as a candle stand, small table or workbench. These are particularly practical as a pair (with the same decorative features and design) although one is slightly shorter than the other. They also make great chair-side companions of great utility. Available for a new home for another 130+ years of decorative utility * The last image is for scale and context and shows the two large stools together at the base of a tower of creepies. The chair, three peat spades and two other smaller creepies are not part of this listing. Please contact W&W Antiques for combined shipping on multiple items.
