Pair of French 19th Century Side Cabinets / Cupboard Commodes Veneered in Tulipwood & Kingwood with Marquetry Panels of Herons

This pair of side cabinets or Cupboard commodes are of French manufacture and, though of 19th century date, are inspired by the furniture of the transitional period moving from the rococo to the neo-classical furniture of the Louis XVI period. The cabinets are veneered in kingwood with tulipwood central panels with marquetry decoration of exquisite quality featuring herons foraging for food on the banks of a river with flowering trees overhead. The cabinets retain their original shaped marble tops and are finely mounted throughout with ormolu of excellent quality. The fretted mounts to the frieze and floral mounts to the pilasters complement the smaller mounts on the apron, the sabot mounts on the feet and the mounts around the central marquetry panels. The cabinets even retain their original keys which are ornately cast and of very fine quality. They are a true pair, the doors opening in opposite directions on each piece.
