A Set of 4 Solid Silver Crested Candlesticks, James Gould, London 1731/32

They are square based with cut corners and each cast in two pieces. They are in very good condition and fully hallmarked under the bases. The date letters on two are a Q for 1731 and an R for 1732. At that time the date letter changed on the 29th May. So two were probably hallmarked on the 29th May and the other two on the 30th May or the next working day, which chronologically would be the next year. They are identical in every aspect. Most probably from the same die. Each is crested, pictured. There is also the original Tessiers box in which they were packed at the time of purchase c.1950 Dimensions: 175 mm tall x 103 mm base.
