Aesthetic Movement Coffee/games Table

A magnificent Aesthetic movement coffee/games table, circa 1875. Typically, all decoration set onto a ebonized backdrop. The predominant wood is Amboyna, the top having a rounded brass surround , beneath which is a most unusual and amazing border of Sevres style medallions set into an intricate brass rail. All this is sat on gilded reeded columns with matching twin stretchers, leading down to 4 Amboyna inlaid splayed legs. When the top is swivelled and opened you then see the most striking red baize card surface framed with a gilded tooled leather border and then more cross banding and then onto the most delicate Boxwood and green Pearwood stringing. Slightly reduced in height to now make a much more desirable and useable piece of furniture, better suited to today's smaller homes. Clearly this table has seen little use and was quite likely an expensive gift,,,far too good to use.
