Description
An extremely rare propaganda (anti-Napoleon) blue and white transferware Napoleon Commemorative Bowl - scene particularly gory - a lovely and extremely rare piece The external decoration having a continuous frieze showing the defeat of Napoleon with the battle raging. In the Battle of Aspern-Essling (21–22 May 1809), Napoleon attempted a forced crossing of the Danube near Vienna, but the French and their allies were driven back by the Austrians under Archduke Charles. The battle was the first time Napoleon had been personally defeated in over a decade, but it was no more than a tactical victory for the Austrians, who failed to capitalize on their superior numbers and merely repulsed Napoleon, without defeating him. 4.75 inches (12cm) dia approx Camera Flash in images Good condition with just the smallest insignificant shallow glaze flakes on the top and bottom rims and roughness having three Still marks from time of manufacture inside - insignificant signs of age including a pinhead glaze fault on the body Printed mark underneath: Napoleon - J B Cappellemans aine Jemmapes Circa 19th century Price includes safe UK shipping - safe International shipping at cost Please check out our other listings
