Description
Anglo-Indian campaign chest
This Anglo-Indian campaign chest was made circa 1870.
The cabinetmaker used timber from the Camphorwood family, a material that usually is heavily scented, but this is similar in all ways except the perfume is very muted.
It was made for a High-Ranking British officer posted to the Far East during his tours of duty.
This is a high-quality piece and would have been made in a prestige workshop to be able to construct this chest to this standard.
The Anglo-Indian campaign chest is fitted a deep secretaire drawer that falls forward to reveal the interior that is fitted pigeonholes and a central cupboard.
Under this drawer is a further 3 graduated drawers all with flush brass handles and line inlay.
To each side there is a good brass swing carrying handle.
Imagine the stories this chest could tell and the action it has seen. Ownership of this desk will bring you great pleasure and how your friends and family as you all recount what it may have gone through in those exciting days during the conflicts of the North West frontier.
