Description
This is a very pretty solid Sterling Silver Fruit Knife from the Victorian 1800s. It’s a lovely collector’s item and would be great for slicing pieces of fruit such as pears or apples.
It comes in a gift bag and would be a lovely present.
It has a hallmarked Sterling Silver blade and a beautifully shaped mother of pearl handle. It has a blank oval cartouche on one side. It has a pretty engraved design to the collar and the back of the handle.
It was made by Edmund Bell of Montague St, Sheffield and it was hallmarked in 1888. The hallmarks and maker’s mark are on the side of the blade.

It measures 12.7cm in length when fully open (5 inches) and 7.7cm when closed (3 inches).
declaration
Beeches Vintage has clarified that the Antique 1888 Sterling Silver Fruit Knife (LA566436) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being 1888
condition
It’s in good condition with the silver shiny. There’s a bit of tarnish at the end and on one side of the collar and a tiny kink in the edge of the blade. There’s a natural inclusion on one side of the Pearl handle that can be seen in the photos. The blade protrudes when the blade is folded back into the handle. There’s are a couple of very tiny chips to the edge of the handle.
