Antique Austro/Hungarian Silver Crucifix c.1890

Exceptional, fine and impressive antique 1890s Austro-Hungarian silver crucifix; an addition to our religious silverware collection. This exceptional antique Austro-Hungarian silver crucifix has been crafted in .800 standard silver. The impressive cross design is ornamented with a cast and applied figure of Jesus Christ, below the plaque bearing the contemporary engraved initials 'Inri'; (Latinate 'Inri', Greek 'Inbi') pertaining to 'Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews'. Each cross bar terminates with a pierced decorated tri-lobed foliated design. The upper portion of the cross bears a plain ring loop, allowing the piece to be hung vertically. The hallmarks to the reverse of this antique silver cross includes: Maker's mark: Jck (untraced) Silver quality/purity mark: Dianakopf mark* (.800, 800/1000) * This variation of the Dianakopf mark was used for Austro-Hungarian silver between 1872-1922; this mark, in addition to the style, determines the date of this service as circa 1890.
