Description
This is an antique bootmaker’s last and gentleman's riding boots duo. An English, leather over beech gentleman's riding boot and stretcher set by Maxwell of Dover Street, dating to the early 20th century, circa 1920. Superb craftsmanship from London's oldest remaining bootmaker, holder of royal patronage and offering bespoke footwear for military and equestrian needs.
Each boot rests gracefully, with a traditional equestrian form - in UK size 10 (EU 45). Displaying a gentle time-worn appearance, and excellent presentation quality throughout. Fine black leather presents a gently worn, supple patina, rich with antique appeal. Perfect for decorative retail display, equestrian interiors, or collectors of gentleman’s outfitter memorabilia.
Four-section beech stretchers within each boot preserve the shape and condition beautifully. Ingenious tongue and groove system allows each section to remain securely within the boot. Central section with handle using a naturally sprung system for locking into place between the outer sections. Shaped foot last slots into the three piece section to keep the shape of the toe box.
Maker’s label for Maxwell of Dover Street, London, a renowned military and equestrian bootmaker Henry Maxwell was established in 1750, and has been based in London since 1756. As a bespoke shoe and boot maker, these lasts are used to keep the individual fit for each owner. Maxwell held the Royal Warrant for every monarch from George IV to Queen Elizabeth II.
This is a fascinating antique bootmaker’s last, offering wonderful antique character and historic London craftsmanship. Delivered ready to enjoy and display.
We offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee with all of our antiques.
