An intriguing late 19th Century bronze figural cane handle, later adapted as a corkscrew, depicting a reclining female nude wearing ankle shackles joined by a chain, symbolising an enslaved or captive figure. The sculptural handle displays a rich, dark bronze patina and is finely cast, with the figure's elongated form creating a comfortable grip. The hollow socket beneath confirms its original function as a walking stick or cane handle, while the addition of a steel worm and decorative brass ferrule transformed it into a practical corkscrew, probably during the late Victorian or Edwardian period. The bronze retains an attractive aged surface with light wear, while the steel worm shows expected oxidation and use.
