Antique Chinese Carved Padauk Tray on Stand

A wonderful late 19th century Chinese hardwood tray table in padauk, the tray top lifting free from its stand. The tray surface features a lightly incised decoration of prunus blossom to one corner, within a galleried border of carved and pierced fretwork. The separate folding stand is heavily carved throughout with prunus branches and blossom, the X-frame stretchers terminating in carved floral bosses at each intersection. The legs are similarly carved with trailing floral motifs and end in scroll feet. The apron beneath the tray is pierced and carved with a continuous floral frieze. The padauk shows a rich, dark reddish-brown patina consistent with age. The tray separates cleanly from the stand and functions well as a self-contained occasional or drinks table. The tray itself can be used independently as a serving tray or display surface, making this a practical as well as decorative piece.
