Antique Chinese One Thousand Faces Fan - 19th Century

Antique Chinese ‘one-thousand-faces’ fan, with lacquered sticks and golden chinoiserie decoration. The sticks with black-lacquered finish and chinoiserie-style decoration stands out for its quality and attention to detail. Fan decorated with a multicolour scene, much to the taste of the time. Many small figures with colourful traditional clothes, performing leisure activities in different scenarios (indoors and outdoors). Their faces are small natural material plates painted by hand. Their clothes are covered with silk. The folds of the leaf are slightly worn, but this is a usual feature in such old pieces. The fan preserves the metal ring and the silk tassel.
