Antique Collection of Letterpress Printing Blocks

Striking, framed assemblage of printers’ type blocks, presented as a decorative wall piece. 88cm by 45cm This modern composition is formed from an array of original wooden letterpress printing blocks, arranged tightly in a rectilinear grid. The reversed letters, numerals and symbols, some in deep charcoal black, others with warm coppery and honeyed wood tones create a bold, graphic surface rich in texture and visual rhythm. The natural wear, ink residue and age darkened patina speak to their former working life in a print shop, giving the piece genuine industrial authenticity. At the centre, a larger block anchors the composition, drawing the eye inward, while surrounding type of varying sizes and fonts adds depth and typographic variety. The blocks are housed within a well proportioned moulded wooden frame, finished in a complementary dark stain that enhances the contrast and lends a refined, gallery like presence. Blocks are dating from around the late 19th to early 20th century and possibly few mid 20th century, this piece bridges craftsmanship and early industrial design.
